We shot this in early December 2014, when we were almost finished Serial #001. This was the first time we got the whole guitar together and we just had to plug it in and try it out. - Scott
Check it out - Guitar Player magazine's website has just posted a great article about Ridgewing!
Ridgewing Guitars are professional quality instruments with instantly interchangeable modules (think - precision modular sniper equivalent of a guitar), held together solid by string tension. So it will take you 15 seconds to swap a headstock, or neck, or bridge, or resonance structures!
Ridgewing is the result of over a decade of research in bio-acoustics and guitar architecture. We have made our designs open-to-all enabling independent developers, craftsmen and guitar enthusiasts to further improve upon our research, and develop and commercialize their own line of components for the Ridgewing guitar, making this the first ever open-source guitar. Even before launch we have incredible innovations on the platform from a variety of independent developers, including self-tuning headstocks, electronic chargeable bridge with built-in pre-amp, ultra-light necks etc.
Our mission is to eradicate boundaries of innovation on the guitar by making Ridgewing an open creative platform that leverages the intelligence and creativity of the crowd; in turn offering guitarists an unmatched guitar personalization, acoustics, playing experience. Each user can instantly mix and match components to personalize his/her instrument, from libraries of components developed by independent developers.
Additionally, every nuance of the instrument compels crowd-innovators to rethink the ‘possible’ of guitars. Examples:
a. Bio-acoustical resonance maps highly evolved acoustical structures of insects into this guitar
b. Fits safely in a briefcase or backpack
c. Aerospace grade materials
d. Instant neck alignment screws
e. Pickups in the body-frame
f. Micro-controller driven electronics
